This is according to a food sustainability report by Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition (BCFN). South Africa ranks sixteenth on the Food Sustainability Index (FSI). This index consists of 25 countries ranked according to the sustainability of their food systems. The index is based on 58 indicators that measure the sustainability of food systems across three pillars: food loss and waste; sustainable agriculture; and nutritional challenges.
France is ranked as the top sustainable country with Japan and Canada coming in second and third on the index.
